Saw the same object in the western sky, as reported by Christine, Warwick, Michelle, etc on 12 August 2018, in an area to the west of Coffs Harbour, NSW. I have never seen anything like it and observed it for close to an hour. I wanted to report it so it could be looked at more closely. I managed to talk to an astronomer in Tasmania, who said it was most likely a debris cloud from a meteor hitting the atmosphere roughly 40 km above the Earth. Sounds true, as it explains the west-east movement (wind), and that it was reflecting sunlight like a satellite and eventually faded as it rose too high for the sun. I have seen nothing in the media. I would love to see some quality photos taken of it.
